BOIL WATER NOTICE in effect

A Boil Water Notice for Gillies Bay is in effect – effective April 11, 2024 until further notice

Please boil your water at a full rolling boil for a minimum of one minute and help us spread the word.  Water should be boiled for any of the following uses: drinking, food prep, coffee, brushing teeth, infant formula, ice, washing fruit/veg, beer/wine-making, canning, immune-compromised individuals and for pets.

Complete Fire Ban Lifted effective October 15, 2023

 

The Open Burning Ban for Gillies Bay has been lifted, effective October 15, 2023. Please ensure that you follow the Fire Smart recommendations when conducting any type of burning on your property.

BURNING BAN – 2023

All Open Burning within the Gillies Bay Fire Protection District is prohibited until further notice.

No Campfires

 Tiki Torches, Chiminea’s, and non-CSA & ULC approved outdoor stoves and cooking devices.

NOTE

These regulations stay in effect regardless of what is posted on the WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT BRANCH WEB SITE.

Texada Island does not usually experience the same conditions as Vancouver Island or the Mainland.

GILLIES BAY RESIDENTS

If you hear the fire siren.

Please shut off any open taps until the fire emergency has been rectified.

Campfires are allowed within the Gillies Bay Fire Protection District until a total fire ban is implemented.

NOTE

An Open Burning Ban within the Gillies Bay Fire Protection District is in effect from May 15 until October 15.

During the ban:

  • No open burning allowed, including backyard burn barrels.
  • Campfires are permitted in Gillies Bay unless a total fire ban is implemented.
  • Other areas are covered by the Provincial Forestry Services and can be found on this page
