WATER MASTER PLAN – The GBID is half way through our water master plan project. The purpose of a water master plan is to provide a road map for water quality, system upgrades, renewal and replacement of existing infrastructure and growth/design horizons. Our water master plan will include our water treatment plan to address elevated colour, turbidity and organic carbons (some the contributing factors in boil water advisories). The project goals are:
• Enhanced treatment and optimized disinfection;
• Ensure sufficient storage for fire flows, balancing, and emergency storage;
• Increase system capacity and pressure;
• Reduce waste and costs; and
• Provide the GBID with a “road map” that will assist in setting budgets for priority improvement projects, and to get the best value for money during emergency expenditures through reference to the master plan.

To learn more, attend our June 14, 2016 Regular Meeting at 7 PM at the Gillies Bay Firehall!

The Gillies Bay Improvement District will be holding a Special Meeting to accept a proposal for a new pumper truck, on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 at 7PM at the Gillies Bay Fire Hall. NOTICE OF GBID SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING On May 21st 2014, Gillies Bay residents will have a chance to express their opinion about the Gillies Bay Improvement District’s proposal to borrow a maximum of $244,000 toward the purchase of a new fire truck to be located at the Gillies Bay Fire Hall at 2620 Gillies Bay Road. This proposal is based on mandatory Fire Underwriter’s requirements to replace front line vehicles after 25 years of service. The term for repayment of long term financing is 15 years. The tax implications for residents within the Gillies Bay VFD Fire Service Protection area will be approximately $0.30 per $1000 of assessed value. For example, the annual tax impact on a house assessed at $300,000 is estimated to be $90.00 per year for 15 years, financed at current rates (estimated at 4%). Gillies Bay electors will be asked to answer the question: Are you in favour of the GBID Board of Trustees adopting Bylaw No. 210, a bylaw to authorize the borrowing of up to $244,000 toward the purchase of a new fire truck? Please attend our Special General Meeting at the Texada Island Senior’s Center in Gillies Bay on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 @ 7PM to obtain more information and to cast your vote.
